Meet the Team

Briarnie Anguish

Trainee Youth Worker

I am currently a Support Youth Worker with Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers. I started volunteering with GYGYC after being a young carer myself.

I am passionate about helping and supporting young people that are in the same situation I have been in. It is nice to see the young people we support progress into more confident and happier people by accessing GYGYC peer support groups.

Since being part of the GYGYC team I have completed Introduction to Youth Work, Safeguarding, First Aid and health and safety training. I hope to continue training so that I can continue and grow within my role.

I enjoy playing sports and therefore love the sports sessions we have within the groups. I recently completed a sponsored tandem skydive to raise money for GYGYC.

Hayley Cook

Admin Assistant

I joined the GYGYC family in March 2018 as an Admin Assistant supporting Terry in the office.

My previous role was at Tesco as Community Champion, which is how I came to know of the charity as I had supported them a few times. When I heard there was a position become available, I was ready for a change and a new challenge after having been with Tesco for 15 years so applied and was more than happy to accept the job offer.

I have completed various training in this role including Safeguarding, GDPR, Crowdfunding (something new for the future of GYGYC) and the Introduction to Youth Work Course.

I love my job with GYGYC, however when I’m not there I am a Mum to two amazing boys, who, much like GYGYC, like to keep me busy. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Fliss Filby

Trainee Youth Worker

I was born in Great Yarmouth. I worked as a child’s nanny in different parts of the country, before leaving it all behind to marry, have children of my own and begin a career in the Civil Service. After 15 years working within the Jobcentre Plus, I began working, and still do, in education.

I have experience at Primary, Secondary and High schools and realised the need for further support outside the classroom, which is why in October 2015 I began volunteering with Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers. Since then I have undergone Safeguarding, First Aid and Food safety and Hygiene training and am currently training towards a Level 2 Btec Award in Youth Work whilst still gaining experience with GYGYC.

My aim is to always inspire children and young adults to achieve their best and enable them to use their potential to the full.

In my spare time I love walking the dog, listening to music and watching movies.

Linsey Lingwood

Trainee Youth Worker

I have been at GYGYC for 3 years, I started volunteering in an admin role and in the groups and continue to work in those roles currently. I am currently working towards my Level 3 in Youth Work which will hopefully enable me to become a Lead Youth Worker within the groups.

I started volunteering with GYGYC as I was a young carer myself and after my 3 children all started full time education, I decided I wanted to try and do something to help young carers. After emailing Terry I was given an interview and I haven’t looked back. I love my job and seeing young peoples faces when we take them out is priceless.

I have undertaken lots of training with GYGYC, some of which are Safeguarding, GDPR, Food Hygiene, First Aid and Level 2 and 3 in Youth Work.

I enjoy singing and am part of a local choir. Family time is also very important to me and I also enjoy event planning after getting a taste for it following a successful planning of GYGYC’s 5th birthday civic ball a few years ago.

Claire Longstaff

Trainee Youth Worker

I have been with GYGYC since 2011, first as a young carer then I became a volunteer. In January 2017 I started my training and am currently a Trainee Youth Worker. GYGYC had such a positive and fun impact on my life, I started volunteering so that I could support other young carers.

I am also the Youth Leader of MESH Youth Group and have been with them since 2012, again starting as a volunteer.

Through both of these roles I have needed to undertake various training including First Aid, Safeguarding and have completed both level 2 and level 3 in Youth Work.

When I’m not working or volunteering, I enjoy knitting, swimming and I love Harry Potter too.

Jade Martin

Trainee Youth Worker

My name is Jade and growing up I was a young carer myself. Unfortunately, we did not have any groups as special as GYGYC then.

Historically I have worked with young and adult carers providing 1:1 support and running projects to help with education and work opportunities and organising residential trips. I also have experience of working in social services, NHS and special needs education. I am very passionate about working with young people and helping them to see and achieve their full potential.

Personal interests include travelling to new places, reading and going to music festivals. Lastly, I love being a part of the GYGYC family because that’s what we are and I look forward to meeting new faces.

Niamh McLoughlin

Support Worker

I have been working at GYGYC for 3 years and my current role is a support worker.  I joined the GYGYC family to try something new and I haven’t looked back since.

I have First Aid, Safeguarding, Food Hygiene, Introduction to Youth Work and C Card training.

I have worked in schools including specialist behaviour schools.  I also work alongside juveniles and vulnerable adults when they are taken into custody.

Working with children is something I feel passionate about and aim to help them be the best version of themselves that they can be.

Jenny Sanders

Trainee Youth Worker

I started volunteering with GYGYC in 2016 and am now a Trainee Youth Worker. I first heard about GYGYC whilst working at Carers Trust and delivering 1:1 and group support and decided to become involved.

I am trained in First Aid, Safeguarding, Level 2 & 3 in Youth Work and Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

Outside of work and GYGYC I enjoy camping, music festivals, VW festivals as well as pom pom making, sewing and making bunting.
